The BDC use case focuses on the C2 induction furnace,
one of the critical production assets in the steelmaking process. The objective
is to collect and integrate operational, electrical, production and
maintenance-related data from different sources and make this information
available to the MONA LISA platform.
The use case includes data originating from the existing PLC
and SCADA systems, such as furnace operating signals, current, voltage and
power measurements, and fault codes. These data are complemented by laboratory
spectrometer results, casting information and manually recorded operational
data such as fault information, refractory lifetime and earth leakage records.
During the project, interfaces have been developed to
transfer selected data from BDC systems to the MONA LISA environment. This
includes automated data import mechanisms as well as data transmission through
the MONALISA. Direct data transfer scripts have also been
integrated into WinCC for selected process data.
Objectives
The main objective of the BDC use case is to create a
reliable and structured data foundation for analyzing the operation and
lifecycle of the induction furnace.
By combining process, production, laboratory and maintenance
data, the use case aims to support MONA LISA in developing methods for:
- improved
visibility of furnace operation and equipment condition,
- identification
of abnormal operating conditions and recurring fault patterns,
- better
understanding of the relationships between process conditions, energy
consumption, refractory lifetime and equipment failures,
- reduction
of unplanned downtime, and
- support
for data-driven maintenance and operational decision-making.
The results developed within MONA LISA are expected to help
BDC improve operational efficiency while contributing to more
resource-efficient and sustainable steel production.
